“Conference News” The first National Telemedicine Conference organized by Technology Resource Mobilization Unit (TReMU) was held on 22 June 2002 at Hotel Serena International in Islamabad. The theme of the conference was to “bridge the Rural & Urban difference”. Minister for Science and Technology Prof. Dr Atta-Ur- Rehman inaugurated the memorable event. An enormous number of guests from Armed forces, Public and Private Sector Health Institutes, Federal and Provincial Ministries and Solution providers attended the memorable event. The major achievements during the conference were as follow: - 1. Doctors from world’s famous Medical Institutes presented papers on different areas where telemedicine applications can pay an important role in provision of basic health services to health-deprived citizens of Less Developed Countries and specially of Pakistan. 2. Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi was linked with the venue at Islamabad through Optic fiber and live surgery was conducted by the National Coordinator for Telemedicine Forum Dr. Asif Zafar and was shown live for the first time in Pakistan. 3. Live consultation session took place from Gilgit to Islamabad via V-SAT. 4. Paper were Presented by senior Doctors (specialists) and by students of Medical Colleges. 5. Multi-National companies also actively participated with respect to their products/services related to Telemedicine in the exhibition. |
