AMA HIPAA Link to Assist Doctors With HIPAA Compliance
The American Medical Association (AMA) and HIPAA docs
Corp. have launched an Internet-based service to help physicians comply
with new federal regulations covering electronic health care transactions,
privacy and security regulations. The interactive service, called
AMA HIPAA Link, offers a set of tools that physician offices can use
to learn and train staff online about how to comply with the requirements
mandated by the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act of 1996. The service also will give subscribers 48 days notice
of any changes in HIPAA regulations, alerting them of new developments
and additional training that a physician's office may need to undergo
as the government issues final rules and clarifies questions about
HIPAA implementation. AMA members can access the tools online at these
discounted prices: $600 for a solo or two-doctor practice; $1,000
for practices with three to nine doctors; and $1,700 for practices
of 10 or more doctors. Nonmembers also may purchase the service for
